Campaigns

The Campaign Group is a spin off from the activities that the Link Up Club organises.
If we consider that an access problem exists we enter into discussion with the management of the venue in question to see if reasonable adjustments can be made.
The group meets every Thursday at the Chester Skills Development Centre and is part of Scope's day service programme.
Participants discuss points of discrimination and access experienced by the Link-Up Club members on their leisure activities or in their every day individual lives within their own community. The members regularly go out on fieldwork in order to offer local businesses an access assessment service based on the Disability Rights Commission's October 2004 criteria.
It is hoped that the offer of this service will help local businesses to comply with the law and to improve access to all disabled people.
Furthermore, it should help to increase disability awareness and assuage any fears with regard to the employment of disabled people.

School Dance 2011

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

On Thursday 29th of March we put on a dance show at the Skills Development Centre. We invited schoolchildren from 3 schools in Blacon St Theresa’s Catholic Primary School, Blacon County Primary School and The Arches School. Altogether about 70 schoolchildren turned up.

The aim of the show was promote disability awareness through dance. The scenes focus on some of the barriers that people with disabilities face in life like access and personal issues as well as making it a bit of fun.

At the end of the show some of the children asked questions about the performance. A few days later all the children who came to the show sent letters to say how much they enjoyed the performance and mention their favourite part of the show and some said that they would love to come again to see the performance.

Dear Scope

I am writing to say how wonderful your performance was I loved the scene and last scene when you broke the wall. And you are right about that.
My name is Catrina I am in year 5 and I think the gorilla playing the drums was a good one.

I liked the gorilla playing the drums that was good too. I hope we come again to watch your performance

I can tell you all tried your hardest and it took a lot of practise. Like I said I hope we can come again.

Dear Scope

I would like to thank you for letting us to Scope and showing us all the fascinating things they can provide for us. I really enjoyed and was very inspired in Kim the lady that done all the brilliant gymnastics.

It was funny when Terry’s pants fell down and his face went bright red. At the end  they all did a dance and it was great to watch. All the other schools looked like they enjoyed it. At the end I asked a question how long did it take to put the whole routine together and I got back 10 months to put up the first routine.

Whenever I see a pedestrian with a disability I use to walk away from them. Since I have been to Scope I have been offering my help to anyone with a disability that needs it.

The lady that read out the poem doing everything themselves. She was very fluent. I know she has a disability but she is just like any other person that likes reading poems.

All together i think it was an outstanding performance and should keep up the good work.

Yours sincerely
